The Invisible Ingredient

Glyphosate is everywhere, let's talk about it

A podcast series by Farmer’s Footprint

Hosted by Blair Beattie of Farmer’s Footprint, the podcast brings together widely respected voices whose work is trusted by communities and supported by evidence. Across eleven episodes, farmers, researchers, legal minds, journalists, youth organisers, and community leaders examine how glyphosate took hold, what it touches across land and society, and how oversight, markets, and culture shape its use. We place records and research beside testimony from the field, asking careful questions and listening for clear answers.

Season themes include residues and risk, GM crops and control, farmer wellbeing, regulation and accountability, food sovereignty and Indigenous knowledge, the long arc of practice change, and youth-led reform in shared spaces. Along the way you will hear from guests such as Zach Bush MD, Helena Norberg-Hodge, and a chorus of farmers and organisers reshaping how food is grown and governed.

From science to storytelling, from activism to alternatives, this is where truth meets transformation. Episodes stream on Apple and Spotify, with full video on YouTube. References and resources are published at theinvisibleingredient.org.

In our second episode, legendary regenerative farmer Will Harris shares his bold journey from chemical-dependent agriculture to the thriving regenerative ecosystem of White Oak Pastures.
He lays bare the toll of agrochemicals on farmer health, soil, and rural economies, and the uphill battle of breaking free from inputs like glyphosate. By rebuilding relationships with animals, land, and community, Will sparked ecological renewal and economic revival of his small hometown—offering a powerful call for consumers to help farmers escape chemical dependency and create a food system in harmony with nature.

Bio: Will Harris is a fourth-generation cattleman who has spent a lifetime on the land his great-grandfather settled in Bluffton, Georgia. Once a practitioner of conventional methods, Will made the radical choice in the mid-90s to walk away from chemical agriculture and return to the regenerative principles his ancestors once knew—principles that honour the intelligence of ecosystems and the dignity of animals.
At White Oak Pastures, his family farm, Will has cultivated more than grass-fed beef—he’s grown a movement. With deep humility and conviction, he speaks to the hard-won lessons of land stewardship, animal welfare, and rural renewal. His voice in this series is steady and unapologetically honest, reminding us what’s at stake when decisions are made for short-term yield instead of long-term harmony.

In the opening episode, host of The Invisible Ingredient Blair Beattie sits down with Zach Bush MD - physician, educator, and co-founder of Farmer’s Footprint - to explore how one chemical came to define modern agriculture and what it’s prevalence reveals about our disconnection from nature. Alongside reflections from the Farmer’s Footprint team, this episode introduces the vision behind a global campaign to make glyphosate infamous, and spark a movement toward awareness and regeneration. Together, Blair and Zach trace glyphosate’s origins from post-war industry to today’s food system, uncovering its impact on soil, health, and the human spirit. Ultimately, this episode invites listeners into a conversation - and a movement - seeking to move beyond the pesticide treadmill toward a more connected, regenerative future.
